An Everlasting Kingdom (part 3)

For context, you are invited to see the first post here.

In 1989 Dr. Grimstead and a team of theologians put together an historic document Concerning the Kingdom of God. Below is the second point of his commentary on that document; posts with his other points will follow in the next days. We believe the Kingdom of God is victorious in history, before Jesus comes again or the “Rapture” occurs. Dr. Jay writes:

3. The Lord’s Prayer Is Primarily Asking God To Get His Kingdom To Come to Earth and His Will To Be Done on Earth as It Is Done in Heaven Now Starting with the First Century.—No serious scholar will attempt to convince anyone that what Jesus really had in mind (when He gave this model prayer in Matthew 6) was that, though His disciples should pray that kind of prayer daily, they should really pray it with the understanding that God’s Kingdom coming to earth and His will being done on earth was not to happen for 2000-plus years, nor expect that prayer to be answered until after His second coming. (Article 14 of Concerning the Kingdom of God)

The above is excerpted from the soon to be published book Rebuilding Civilization on the BIBLE: Proclaiming the Truth on 24 Controversial Issues by Dr. Jay Grimstead and Dr. Eugene Clingman.
